Artist Statement

My journey into the realm of art began unexpectedly in 2021, a turning point sparked by an accident that left me confined to a slower pace of life. Before then, I never imagined myself as an artist. Amidst the whirlwind of being a devoted wife, mother, and full-time professional, the idea of nurturing a creative side seemed unlikely. During three months of recovery, amidst a pandemic’s uncertain backdrop, I found a need for a creative outlet. It started with a simple bunny crafted from my daughter’s art supplies—a humble beginning that blossomed into a profound passion. Fueled by an insatiable curiosity, I delved into online tutorials, to learn the fundamentals of drawing until I found myself enamored with the art of realism. Today, I devote time almost daily to my art, and I am endlessly grateful for the unexpected journey that led me here. The title of The Unexpected Artist is not merely a moniker; it’s a testament to the astonishment shared by both myself and those closest to me. My favorite mediums are charcoal/graphite, colored pencil, and scratchboard. However, it is in the realm of pet and wildlife portraits that I am happiest. Through my art, I aspire to ignite a spark of wonder and connection, bridging the gap between the tangible and the intangible. I hope to inspire others to pursue their passions and know it is “never too late!
